| Howdy.... new to the group, mostly just been a lurker... but figured y'all would be a good source for an opinion.
85 ninja 600r if this is in decent shape, is it viewed as a classic or more as an old piece of junk? heh
Just curious... thinking about grabbing it to get back on 2 wheels, it's been a while, and at the price, if it's more of a piece of junk I can look at it as a re-learner. If it's a classic, I'll try to keep it in as best shape as possible.
That is, unless someone out there has a running, legal sport bike that they'd sell for a grand or less.

| http://reno.craigslist.org/mcy/660962467.html I have no idea if this would be a classic but on the face it does not look like a POS. If you can get is for cheap it's even better. We paid $2K for my wife's '06 Ninaja 250R with just a few thousand miles on it. Go take a look at it. If it sound good, runs good, no smell of oil, or leaks, good rubber -consider it.. | |

| I would say its worth the $1300 if its as clean as it is in the pics. If I had the money Id pick it up just as a spare bike. I like the old stuff. You can always offer a grand and see what he says. | |

| We're trying to figure out how to get the deal done tonight. The fire in Washoe Valley, and the winds have us at a standstill since the bike's in Carson City and I'm in Stead... helmetless, licenseless... well, not one for this state anyway... let my Texas M stamp expire some years back. LOL it's tough being a big fat bastard buying stuff off the rack... had to order a 3XL and it won't arrive for a few more days. Ok, so I'm not THAT fat, but I'm wide... (atleast that's what I keep telling myself)
LMAO went down and looked at a used 650 suzuki savage, felt like I was leaning back in a locked desk chair my knees were so high up... those little squat frames shouldn't even be in a cruiser category.

| Ask him if he can deliver it. When I sold my last motorcycle to a guy in Carson as well, he and his wife came to my house to pick it up. He bought it sight unseen except for a few pics. I had the helmet and stuff but didn't really want to ride it to Carson and had my kids w/ the wife at work. I'm 5-10 (30 inch inseem) and I am flat footed on my 06 Ninja 650R. Pretty comfortable ride. Not so comfy on wifes 250R thought, knees up pretty high. | |

| Church, The bike looks nice especially if he'll take 1300 and kbb lists it for $1325 thats without the pipe but see if he'll take less never hurts to try. Sounds good in the vid especially with the pipes. I would definetly get it if I had the money at least for a winter bike for me but if you say your a bigger guy fitting on the bike may be an issue. Definetly take a look at it. If you need help getting it to stead i could help thurs. Good luck | |

| The early 600 Ninja's had one cronic problem, intake valve clearance. The engines rev so much, and the intake valves are soft, they recede into the valve seats, taking the valve clearance down to zero, and then, the engine won't start.
Easy fix, keep adjusting the valves, every 3,000 to 4,000 miles. When yu get to having to replace them, go stainless steel valves and the problem will magically go away.
Always set the valves with two feeler gages, one at each rocker arm adjuster, not just one gage. The rockers are forked, one cam lobe, two adjusters for two valves.
If you need help with it, I have extensive experience with those engines. lile when we raced them in AFM competition. Stuff like Ninja 250 pistons will bore into that engine, 3mm overbore, and they look just like a 600 piston, right down to the info on the piston top, so when someone protests the engien, pulling the head just shows what looks like a stock 600 piston, and as long as they don't measure the bore, you get a freebie win!

| Heh... anyone out there wanna coach me through rejetting my carbs or charge me something I can afford to do it and lemme watch? I'd love to start working on it myself as a general rule, I got the books, and I got a few tools around... but just don't have the confidence and experience for it. Only things I've ever changed on a bike were a couple belts on an old kawi belt drive and regulator rectifier. Heh, probably couldn barely change the oil without a video to walk me through it It was running rich, and I think my 13 year old flooded it, so when I tried to start it, poof... now I gotta clean the plugs to get it to start... previous owner told me rejetting would fix this problem. I assume this is the issue you were referring to. Still waiting on the extensively long wait time for the motorcycle riding course... first week of august, but trying to find an open slot before then where someone else doesn't show up. | |

| By the way... where would I find stainless steel valves? I looked up carb parts and kits online specific to the model, but couldn't find any that stated the metal makeup of the valves. | |

| Well... no worries on the carbs... got em cleaned out and a basic checkup, all seems to be good to go now... seems like the battery charge is a bit low, but a little riding should clear that up soon. Will just start it every few days until I get the class done... lol one thing is clear, been too long off two wheels for me, gonna take a little time getting used to it again. | |
